1500 MW TIPAIMUKH HYDRO ELECTRIC PROJECT

This project will be one of the largest hydroelectric project in Eastern India to date and will be located 500 meters downstream of the confluence of the Tuivai and Barak Rivers in the District of Churacchander in the State of Manipur, near the Manipur - Mizoram border. The Project will have a 6 X 250 MW power house and will be completed in an estimated time of 12 years.

The reservoir capacity of this Project is 15.5 billion metric cube shall be higher by 75% than the Bhakra reservoir. After completion of this Project, the perennial flood problems in the Barak valley in the State of Assam will be stopped and fertile land in this plain shall become rice bound for entire North East.

Important developments towards construction and execution of the project :-
TEC approved by CEA in July’03.
Stage-I & II Site-Clearance from MOE&F already been obtained.
EIA and EMP studies have been completed and public hearing is expected to be held during February/March’04.
MOU with the Govt. of Manipur has been executed. NOC from the Govts. of Mizoram & Assam obtained.
As decided in the pre-PIB meeting, the development works of stage-II activities of the Project is being taken up.
