Mr. Niharendu Bhattacharya is our new Director (Technical)  


Mr. Niharendu Bhattacharya is an out-of-the-box thinker with a flair for charting out strategies and business plan. He has over three decades experience in the managing hydro power projects, having started his career as a Trainee Engineer in a private construction company . A B.E (Civil) from B.E College , Shibpur, Calcutta University , Mr. Bhattacharya is well versed in Project Planning & Management, including evaluating project, present cost/ benefits analysis at project decision points, establishing Quality Management Systems across various processes to reduce rejection levels and ensuring high quality standards at all the stages of production and developing effective procedures for implementation of safety programs. He has also been associated with civil and electrical Planning and Design of projects like Kameng HE Project, Tuirial HE Project and Tripura Gas Based Power Project. Mr. Bhattacharya is also a member of NEEPCO Arbitrators and appointed for an arbitration including a total claim of Rs. 20 Crores.

Prior to his appointment as D(T), Mr. Bhattacharya was Executive Director (C) during which time he was overall in-charge of the 600 MW Kameng HEP . As General Manager (i/c) for Corporate Planning and Investigation , he was given the additional responsibility of Head of Project of Tuivai HE Project (210 MW) and Tipaimukh HE Project (1500 MW).

   
Dividend Paid to the Government of India  


On the the 10th September 2008 a dividend cheque for Rs.59.10 crores was handed over to Mr. Sushil Kumar Shinde, Minister (Power), Government of India from Mr. V.K.Abbey, CMD, Mr.M.R.Ghosh, D(F) and Mr.I.P.Barooah, D(P) . It is to be noted that a total Dividend of Rs 77.50 Crores has been paid by NEEPCO for 2007-08 to the Government of India.

   
Independence Day Celebrated  


The 62nd Independence Day of the Nation was celebrated with great enthusiasm at all offices and project locations of NEEPCO. In all locations , the tricolour flag was hoisted and the National Anthem was sung . A large number of officers and staff, their children and the teachers, staff and students attended the function in each location.

   
Mr V K Abbey is our CMD  

Mr V K Abbey has joined as CMD of NEEPCO on the 6 th June 2008 .

Addressing the officers and staff of the Corporate Office, Mr.Abbey said that given the fact that Kameng H.E.Project can boost our installed capacity by 600 MW, it should be accorded the highest priority. Mr.Abbey also called for the cooperation of all so that Schedule A status can be attained.

World Environment Day Celebrated on the 5th of June 2008

NEEPCO Women Welfare Association (NWWA) organized a Workshop on the occasion of World Environment Day on the 5 th June 2008 at the NEEPCO Corporate office. The theme was Environmental Sustainability Towards a Healthy Planet. Speaking on the occasion, Mr.R.Chatterjee, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya said that children need to be involved if we are to really bring about changes in our attitude towards the environment. Guest speakers included Mr.U.Moral, GM(Thermal Planning), NEEPCO, Dr.O.P.Singh, Head of Department, Environmental Studies, NEHU and Mrs.P.Mukhim, Editor, The Shillong Times. Mrs.C.K.Shadap, President, NWWA, welcomed the gathering while Mrs.D.G.L.Mawnai, Secretary, NWWA, proposed the vote of thanks.

Gas Supply Agreement For Monarchark Signed

 

A Gas Supply Agreement (GSA), was concluded in New Delhi between ONGC and NEEPCO under which the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. will supply 0.5 million cubic metres per day of gas for a period of 15 years to the gas-based power station of EEPCO coming up at Monarchak, Tripura. The Term Sheet, which was signed earlier this year on 25th March 2008 , has now been regularised with this agreement. The Agreement was signed by ONGC's Director in-charge of Marketing, Mr.N.K. Mitra (left), and Mr.M.R. Ghosh Director (Finance) on 5th June 2008 . Under this agreement, ONGC will commence supply of 0.5 million cubic metres per day of gas, for 15 years, from the date of first drawal of gas; the first drawal is slated by 25th September 2010 , within 30 months from the date of signing of Term Sheet.

ONGC shall be transporting gas from its various new fields in Tripura including Sonamura, Tichna and Sundalbari and deliver at the fence of Neepco's Monarchak project.

 
 
MOSP Visits Corporate Office

The Union Minister of State for Power and Commerce, Mr. Jairam Ramesh visited the Corporate Office on the 2nd May 2008 accompanied by Mr. Pradyut Bordoloi, Minister for Industries and Power, Government of Assam.

While appreciating the pioneering role played by NEEPCO in the most difficult geological and political situation in the region, Mr. Jairam Ramesh exhorted NEEPCO to explore the possibility of working with institutions like IIT, Guwahati, NEHU, Shillong and IIT, Roorkee in different areas like geology, IT and environment. The minister also urged the officers and staff to work towards adoption of a more proactive attitude so that targets can be achieved.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Pradyut Bordoloi acknowledged the contribution made by NEEPCO in the power sector in the North East while expressing confidence in NEEPCO's future plans.

Earlier, Mr.J.Barkakati, CMD, delivered the welcome address. Mr.M.R.Ghosh, Director(Finance), proposed the vote of thanks.

A review meeting was also held where the Hon'ble minister was briefed about NEEPCO's expansion programme in terms of hydro and thermal power projects.
