Salient Features

INTRODUCTION

Name	TUIRIAL HYDRO ELECTRIC PROJECT
Location	Mizoram, Aizawl District
Approach To the Project	The project is accessible from Silchar ( Assam ) via Baghbazar, Vairengte, Saiphai, Saipum to project site. The nearest rail head is Silchar in Assam and the civil airport is at Aizwal in Mizoram.
Capacity	60 MW ( 2 x 30 )
Cost Of The Project	The project was cleared for investment in July' 1998. The latest approved cost of the project is Rs. 802.79 crores (including IDC Rs.40.05 crores at October' 2004 Price Level)
Commissioning Time	The original commissioning schedule of the project was July' 2006 . But due to agitation called by the Tuirial Crop Compensation Claimants Association w.e.f 09-06-04, the progress of work of the Project came to a stop .All construction work has been kept suspended till a decision is received from MOP. Revised - 3(three) years from resumption of works.
Other Details	The Dam of the project is being constructed across river Turial with power house at the toe of the dam on the left bank . Tuirial is a tributary of the river Barak, which is one of the main river systems of the region flowing into Bangladesh. The project parameters comprises of construction of : i)75 m high zoned- earthfill dam ii)Two nos. of Diversion tunnel of dia 8 m ( lined) & length 770m. iii)Power tunnel: Modified Horse shoe shapped. iv)Open chute spillway with Crest elevation of Ogee Weir 76.6 m v)Power house: vertical Francis Turbines operating under a head of 56 m, vi)Tail race joining into the main river. PIB was held on 04.06.2010. CCEA of the project is awaited. The work will resume after receipt of the CCEA clearance.
